Outpatient rehabilitation allows patients to continue their recovery and live more independently. Services are provided for patients with acute or chronic musculoskeletal problems resulting from neurological disorders or injury.
In addition to physical and occupational therapy and speech-language pathology programs, outpatients have access to specialized programs including:
• Hand therapy
• Dysphagia evaluation and treatment
• Pediatric feeding/swallowing
• Wheelchair seating clinic
• Lymphedema management
• Driver rehabilitation safety
• Musculoskeletal rehabilitation
• Low vision evaluation and management
• Wound care
• Vestibular rehabilitation
• Voice center
Outpatient Rehab Services offers a free 20-minute screening to patients and their caregivers to address issues affecting their daily lives. Direct referrals can also be made for complete evaluation/treatment if preferred.
Our Outpatient Rehab team of occupational, physical, and speech therapists can address:
• Assistive/Adaptive Equipment: Cost-effective equipment recommendations and modifications to aid with independent functioning
• Body Mechanics for Patients and Caregivers: Working with independent and assisted transfer techniques to ease home living and decrease risk of injury to patient and/or family
• Communication, Cognition, Memory: Help with speech intelligibility, or teaching alternative communication methods if needed, problem-solving skills, memory techniques
• Fatigue Management: Focus on energy conservation and activity simplification to minimize fatigue
• Lymphdema Management: Comprehensive evaluation and treatment protocol for build-up of lymphatic fluid in various parts of the body that my occur following breast or prostate surgery
• Pain Modification: Palliative treatment teaching use of TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation), massage techniques to reduce pain symptoms
• Scar Management: Massage and other applications such as topical gel sheets, compression garments
• Self-Care, Daily Activity Management: Adapting bathing, grooming, food preparation, household management, and other activities of daily living
• Strength & Mobility for Daily Activities: Focus on endurance, balance, walking for maximum independence in the home and community
• Swallowing: Clinic or videofluoroscopic evaluation to identify facilitative and safe swallowing maneuvers for individual difficulties
• Voice: Videostroboscopy available to aid with visualization of vocal cords; laryngectomy rehab and support meetings
