Are you interest in learning how to care for traumatically injured patients? Do you currently care for traumatically injured patients but want to learn or refresh your skills?

Consider taking the Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) offered at St. Vincent Hospital's Regional Emergency and Trauma Center. The ENA (Emergency Nurses Association) developed and implemented the TNCC as a means of identifying a standardized body of trauma nursing knowledge. The TNCC (Provider) is a 16-20 hour course designed to provide the learner with cognitive knowledge and psychomotor skills.

  • Initial Assessment
  • Shock
  • Brain and Craniofacial Trauma
  • Thoracic and Neck Trauma
  • Abdominal Trauma
  • Spinal Cord and Vertebral Column Trauma
  • Musculoskeletal Trauma
  • Burn Trauma
  • Trauma and Pregnancy
  • Pediatric Trauma
  • Geriatric Trauma
  • Psychosocial Aspects of Trauma Care
  • Stabilization, Transfer, and Transport
  • Demonstration of the Trauma Nursing Process Station
Skill Station
  • Trauma Nursing Process
  • Airway and Ventilation Interventions
  • Spinal Immobilization
  • Selected Interventions: Chest Trauma and Traction Splinting
Evaluation
Successful completion of the course includes scoring 80% or greater on the multiple choice examination and demonstrating all critical steps and 70% of the total points in the evaluated skill stations. The evaluated skill stations are the Trauma Nursing Process, Airway and Ventilation Interventions, and Spinal Immobilization.
