What is a MIBG scan?
An I-123 MIBG scan is a nuclear medicine test that identifies and localizes certain types of cancer. It produces better quality images (pictures) and uses a smaller amount of radiation than other tests available.
On the first day of the test, a radiotracer is injected into a vein through an intravenous catheter (IV). The following day, images are taken of the body, which takes about two hours.
Sedation may be used for young patients and those who are unable to hold still.
For questions or more information regarding this test, please call 433-8180.
