The
Dare to Care Program is presented at middle schools (to 7th and
8th graders), high schools, colleges, parents, driving schools and
other youth organizations.
Another
feature:
The use of Fatal Vision simulator goggles give young people the
opportunity to experience, first-hand, the potentially fatal consequences
of alcohol and drug impairment without drinking a drop of alcohol
or using drugs of any type.
Dare to Care
The Emergency Nurses Dare to Care program is designed to change
attitudes and behavior about drinking and driving. The program's
target audience is young people.
Goals
-
Reduce the number of injuries, deaths and crashes due to drinking
and driving,
specifically those involving young drivers.
- Raise
awareness of the physical effects of alcohol and other drug use
and encourage honesty in dealing with these problems.
- Increase
the proportion of adolescents who abstain from using alcohol.
- Provide
information on alternatives to drinking and driving, with emphasis
on "making
smart choices."
As
Emergency Center nurses, ENCARE presenters feel a special
responsibility to educate the public about the devastating effects
of alcohol and to help teens learn to "think before they drink."
