Intensive
Care Unit- PICU
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at St. Vincent Hospital
is the realization of our vision to provide the absolute best
care for our children. Because when a child's life is at stake,
so is our future.
For decades, St. Vincent's Regional Pediatric Center has faithfully
cared for injured and seriously ill children. With the development
of PICU, our goals for a stronger future are coming to realization.
The
PICU of St. Vincent Hospital Pediatric Center incorporates
the full spectrum of clinical diagnostic and critical care
treatment.
The
new Pediatric ICU, has four beds, which includes one"swing"
bed that can be used as either an intensive-care or intermediate-care
bed and two beds in an Intermediate Care Unit. The PICU includes
all the specialized monitoring equipment found in adult intensive
care units, along with some very special elements- immediate
access to the Regional Pediatric Center's multidisciplinary
health care team and an environment that is totally child-
and family-friendly.
Once
children have recovered from their injuries or diseases and
are moved into a bed outside the Pediatric Intensive Care
Unit, they continue to have contact with many of the health
care specialists they and their parents came to know in the
PICU.
The
affiliation with Children's Hospital also benefits the Pediatric
Center's staff. "Thanks to our strong affiliation with
Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, our staff members have received
specialized training and we have adopted many of their quality
standards," said Pediatric Center Director Paula Hunsader,
who added that training and extra support is more vital than
ever as census numbers continue to grow in the Pediatric Center.
